Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kristin Scott Thomas Win 2008 Laurence Olivier Awards

The National Theatre's The Man of Mode and The Royal Ballet's Jewels were the first productions to receive multiple wins during the first half of the 2008 Laurence Olivier Awards ceremony at the Grosvenor House on Park Lane in London.

The winners are being announced on www.officiallondontheatre.co.uk, the official website of The Society of London Theatre, which presents the annual awards.

Chiwetel Ejiofor was named Best Actor for his work in the title role of Othello at the Donmar while Kristin Scott Thomas won the Best Actress prize for the Royal Court's production of The Seagull.

Actor Richard E. Grant is host for the event. Nominations for the London theatre's highest honor were announced Feb. 26. The London production of Hairspray led the pack with a record-breaking 11 nominations including Best Musical. The show also boasts Best Actress and Actor in a Musical nominations for newcomer Leanne Jones and West End veteran Michael Ball, respectively.
