Two-Disc In the Heights Cast Album Will Record March 23-24 for June 3 Release

| photo by Joan Marcus | Ghostlight Records officially announced March 12 that it will release the original Broadway cast album of the new musical In the Heights June 3.
Steeped in Latin musical flavors and thumping with a hip-hop heartbeat, the score will be heard on two discs.
Playbill.com had previously reported the expectation of a Ghostlight recording. Expect 23 tracks.
The album producers are Andres Levin and Ghostlight founder Kurt Deutsch. Producer-composer Levin is a producer for many leading Latin and World music artists.
Recording sessions are set for March 23-24.
The romantic musical comedy about the mostly Latino population of a changing neighborhood in upper Manhattan (around 181st Street) is conceived and written (music and lyrics) by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who also stars. The libretto is by Quiara Alegr�a Hudes.
The well-reviewed Broadway production at the Richard Rodgers Theatre opened March 9, following previews and an earlier award-winning production Off-Broadway in 2007.
Alex Lacamoire is the music director and co-orchestrator (along with Bill Sherman). Thomas Kail is the show's director. Choreography is by Andy Blankenbuehler.
Here's how the show's producers bill the musical: "In the Heights is the quintessential New York musical, about a vibrant and tight-knit community at the top of the island of Manhattan. The music pulses with the hopes and dreams of three generations as they struggle to forge an identity in a neighborhood on the brink of transition."
