Gone Missing: Tale of Lost Naturalist Is Focus of Utah World Premiere, End of the Horizon

By Kenneth Jones
14 Mar 2008

Plan-B Theatre Company, the Salt Lake City Equity troupe devoted to contemporary voices — including Rocky Mountain writers — presents the world premiere of Utah playwright Debora Threedy's The End of the Horizon March 14-30.

The drama concerns the 1934 disappearance of 20-year-old artist and naturalist Everett Ruess, who went missing in the canyon country near Escalante, UT. "Nearly a century later Ruess is a near-mythic figure," according to Plan-B. "The End of the Horizon is a searing drama about the Ruess family and the power of the unknown."

Jon Krakauer devotes a section of his book, "Into the Wild," to Ruess.

The cast features Jason Bowcutt, David Fetzer, Jesse Harward, Stephanie Howell, Garry Peter Morris and playwright Debora Threedy herself. Kay Shean directs. The creative team includes Randy Rasmussen (sets), Cheryl Ann Cluff (sound), Ricklen Nobis (original music), Nancy Hills (costumes), Cory Thorell (lighting and props) and Jennifer Freed (stage manager).

Jerry Rapier is producing director of Plan-B Theatre Company.

Plan-B Theatre Company presents at the Studio Theatre @ the Rose Wagner, 138 West Broadway (300 South). For more information visit www.planbtheatre.org.
