Working in the Theatre Series to Present "Steppenwolf: From Chicago to Osage County"

By Andrew Gans
20 Mar 2008

The American Theatre Wing's "Working in the Theatre" series will continue March 23 with "Steppenwolf: From Chicago to Osage County."

The program will premiere on CUNY TV March 23 at 5 PM with additional air dates scheduled for March 28 at 9 AM and 2 and 7:30 PM and March 29 at 11 AM; all times ET.

The broadcast will feature interviews with Steppenwolf Theatre Company co-founder Jeff Perry and Steppenwolf ensemble members Laurie Metcalf, Amy Morton and Rondi Reed. The foursome will discuss "their formative years as a rebel theatre group in Chicago, what they did in those early years to attract audiences, how the ensemble has evolved, how Steppenwolf transformed from upstart to institution, the development of Tracy Letts' August: Osage County, and the challenges that a New York success like August places on their work back home in Chicago."

Ted Chapin, president and executive director of the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization, moderates the panel discussion.

Jeff Perry, Amy Morton and Rondi Reed are currently appearing on Broadway in August: Osage County. Laurie Metcalf can currently be seen in November.

Beginning March 26, "Steppenwolf: From Chicago to Osage County" will be available as streaming audio and podcast by visiting www.americantheatrewing.org.

The American Theatre Wing is best known as the creator of the Antoinette Perry "Tony" Awards. Sondra Gilman is chairman of the board of the American Theatre Wing; Doug Leeds is president of the board and Howard Sherman is executive director.
