Broadway's Greatest Showstoppers to Feature Hamlisch, Chenoweth and Esparza

| photo by Aubrey Reuben | Tony Award-winning A Chorus Line composer Marvin Hamlisch will make his debut with the New York Philharmonic May 20.
Hamlisch will be the conductor and host of an evening at Avery Fisher Hall entitled Broadway's Greatest Showstoppers. The 7:30 PM concert will boast the talents of Tony Award winner Kristin Chenoweth and Raúl Esparza.
Concertgoers can expect to hear songs from Les Misérables, Carousel, My Fair Lady and A Chorus Line, among others.
Kristin Chenoweth, who received a Tony nomination for her work as Glinda in Stephen Schwartz's Wicked, has been seen on the New York stage in The Fantasticks, Scapin, Steel Pier, A New Brain, Epic Proportions, Strike Up the Band, On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, The Apple Tree, Stairway to Paradise and Candide. The actress won her Tony Award for her performance as Sally Brown in the Broadway bow of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Chenoweth recently released her second solo recording, "As I Am" (Sony Classical), and her screen credits include "Kristin," "The West Wing," "The Music Man," "The Pink Panther," "Stranger Than Fiction," "Deck the Halls" and "Running with Scissors." Chenoweth can currently be seen on the new ABC series "Pushing Daisies."
Raul Esparza, currently on Broadway in the revival of The Homecoming, has also starred on Broadway in Company, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Taboo, Cabaret and The Rocky Horror Show. He won Drama Desk Awards for his performances in Taboo and Company and received Tony nominations for his work in those shows as well. Off-Broadway Esparza was seen in tick, tick . . . BOOM! and the revival of The Normal Heart. He also starred in two of the Stephen Sondheim musicals that comprised the Sondheim Celebration at the Kennedy Center, Sunday in the Park with George and Merrily We Roll Along.
Marvin Hamlisch won the 1976 Tony Award for Best Score of a Musical for his work on A Chorus Line (lyrics by Edward Kleban) and received a Tony nomination for his score for the short-lived musical Sweet Smell of Success. The composer also contributed songs (lyrics by Craig Carnelia) to the Broadway play-with-music Imaginary Friends, and his other Broadway credits include They're Playing Our Song, Smile and The Goodbye Girl. Hamlisch has scored more than 40 motion pictures, and his numerous pop hits include "The Way We Were" and "Nobody Does It Better."
