In the Mikes: Heights Cast Album Gets Recorded March 23-24

Coffee, light and sweet, will be the fuel that keeps cast members of In the Heights hopping March 23-24, when they step into a studio to record the show's Broadway cast album.

The high-energy score by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who also stars, will be preserved by Ghostlight Records for a June 3 release. Steeped in Latin musical flavors and thumping with a hip-hop heartbeat, the score will be heard on two discs — unusual for a score written by a Broadway newcomer.

Expect 23 tracks. The album producers are Andres Levin and Ghostlight founder Kurt Deutsch. Producer-composer Levin is a producer for many leading Latin and World music artists.

The romantic musical comedy about the mostly Latino population of a changing neighborhood in upper Manhattan (around 181st Street) is conceived and written (music and lyrics) by Miranda. The libretto is by Quiara Alegría Hudes.

The well-reviewed Broadway production at the Richard Rodgers Theatre opened March 9, following previews and an earlier award-winning production Off-Broadway in 2007.

Alex Lacamoire is the music director and co-orchestrator (along with Bill Sherman). Thomas Kail is the show's director. Choreography is by Andy Blankenbuehler.

Here's how the show's producers bill the musical: "In the Heights is the quintessential New York musical, about a vibrant and tight-knit community at the top of the island of Manhattan. The music pulses with the hopes and dreams of three generations as they struggle to forge an identity in a neighborhood on the brink of transition."

The track listing (subject to change) will be:

"In The Heights"
"Breathe"
"Benny's Dispatch"
"It Won't Be Long Now"
"Inutil"
"No Me Diga"
"96,000"
"Paciencia y Fe" ("Patience and Faith")
"When You're Home"
"Piragua"
"Siempre" ("Always")
"The Club/Fireworks"
"Sunrise"
"Hundreds of Stories"
"Enough"
"Carnaval del Barrio"
"Atencion"
"Albanza"
"Everything I Know"
"No Me Diga" (Reprise)
"Champagne"
"When the Sun Goes Down"
"Finale"

The cast includes Andréa Burns (as neighborhood salon owner Daniela), Janet Dacal (as salon worker Carla), Robin De Jesús (as Usnavi's cousin, Sonny), Carlos Gomez (as taxi and limo service co-owner Kevin, Nina's dad and Camila's husband), Mandy Gonzalez (as student and love interest Nina), Christopher Jackson (as limo dispatcher Benny), Priscilla Lopez (as Camila, Nina's mom), Olga Merediz (as Abuela), Karen Olivo (as shampoo girl and love interest Vanessa) and Seth Stewart (as Grafitti Pete). The cast of 27 also features Tony Chiroldes, Rosie Lani Fiedelman, Joshua Henry, Afra Hines, Nina Lafarga, Doreen Montalvo, Javier Muñoz, Krysta Rodriguez, Eliseo Roman, Luis Salgado, Shaun Taylor-Corbett, Rickey Tripp, Michael Balderrama, Blanca Camacho, Rogelio Douglas Jr. and Stephanie Klemons.
