Tony Winner Peters Co-hosts "Regis" March 27

By Andrew Gans
27 Mar 2008

Bernadette Peters

Two-time Tony Award winner Bernadette Peters — who makes her debut as an author April 28 with the release of the new children's book "Broadway Barks" — co-hosts the March 27 broadcast of "Live with Regis and Kelly."

"Live with Regis and Kelly" airs in the metropolitan New York City area on ABC-TV Channel 7 from 9-10 AM ET; check local listings.

Bernadette Peters was last on Broadway in the acclaimed revival of Gypsy, for which she received a 2003 Tony Award nomination for her performance as Rose in the Sam Mendes-directed production. She won her two Tonys for her performances in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Song & Dance and Irving Berlin's Annie Get Your Gun, and she has also starred on Broadway in Mack & Mabel, On the Town, Sunday in the Park with George, The Goodbye Girl and the original production of Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods. Peters' newest live recording, "Sondheim, Etc., Etc.—Bernadette Peters Live at Carnegie Hall (The Rest of It)," is available on the Angel Records label. Masterworks Broadway has also released a "Legends of Broadway" CD celebrating her theatrical career. Peters' screen credits are numerous.

Broadway Barks 10 — the annual adopt-a-thon created by pals Peters and Mary Tyler Moore to find homes for pets from city animal shelters — will be held July 12 in Shubert Alley.

Peters' new tome
Peters — with illustrator Liz Murphy — has penned "Broadway Barks," which will be shipped by Amazon.com April 28 on the Blue Apple Books label. The book also includes a CD featuring a reading of the story and an original tune written and performed by two-time Tony winner Peters. "Broadway Barks," according to Amazon, is described as such: "In a park in New York City lives a lonely little dog. He remembers when he used to get taken for walks, fed dinner every night, and told he was a good dog. Now, he's all alone and must fend for himself. But everything changes one day when he sees a lady reading in the park and decides to follow her—all the way to a place where he might become a star!" Pre-orders are currently being accepted for the book, which will benefit Broadway Barks, by clicking here.
