NYPL Exhibit "New York Story: Jerome Robbins and His World" Begins March 25

| photo by Frederic Ohringer | "New York Story: Jerome Robbins and His World" — a new exhibit celebrating the legacy of the Tony and Academy Award-winning artist — goes on display at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts March 25.
Curated by Lynn Garafola, professor of dance at Barnard College, the exhibit uses material from private individuals, the library's Jerome Robbins Dance Division as well as loans from the Museum of the City of New York, the Paley Center for Media and The Jerome Robbins Trust and Foundation.
The exhibit incorporates papers, sketches, costumes and footage of director-choreographer Robbins' work. As part of the event, the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts will host a lecture on March 29 at 3 PM, hosted by curator Garafola.
Robbins' extensive career included his signature work on West Side Story, Gypsy, Fiddler on the Roof, High Button Shoes, Peter Pan, Fancy Free and On the Town. A five-time Tony Award winner, Robbins also earned the 1962 Academy Award for Best Director (shared with Robert Wise) for the film of "West Side Story."
The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts is well known for its collection of historic recordings, videotapes, autograph manuscripts, correspondence, sheet music, stage designs, press clippings, programs, posters and photographs. Its divisions are the Circulating Collections, Jerome Robbins Dance Division, Music Division, Billy Rose Theatre Division and the Rodgers & Hammerstein Archives of Recorded Sound.
"New York Story: Jerome Robbins and His World" will be on display through June 28 at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, located on the Lincoln Center campus at 40 Lincoln Center Plaza.
