Prospect Theater to Premiere Honor, Mills & Reichel's Musical Rewrite of As You Like It

By Adam Hetrick
25 Mar 2008

Peter Mills and Cara Reichel will debut their latest musical Honor at the Prospect Theater Company beginning April 19.

Prospect Theater Company founders Mills and Reichel, who previously collaborated on the musicals Illyria and The Flood, have reset Shakespeare's As You Like It in feudal Japan for their musical adaptation entitled Honor. The musical marks the final offering of the Prospect Theater Company season.

The writers' duties are split this way: lyrics by Mills, book and music by Mills & Reichel.

Reichel directs a cast including Alan Ariano (Miss Saigon), Eymard Cabling, Ariel Estrada, Ali Ewoldt (Les Misérables), Steven Eng, Christine Toy Johnson (The Music Man), Brian Jose, Ming Lee (Pacific Overtures), Jaygee Macapugay, Doan MacKenzie (The King and I), Mel Maghuyop, Diane V. Phelan, Romney Piamonte, Vincent Rodriguez, and David Shih.

The ensemble for Honor comprises Whitney Lee, Allan Mangaser, Toshiji Takeshima and Robert Torigoe.

Creative duties are handled by Erica Beck Hemminger (set design), Sidney Shannon (costume design), Evan Purcell (lighting design), Jacob Grigolia-Rosenbaum (fight choreography), Dax Valdes (choreography), Daniel Feyer (musical direction) and Erika Ito (orchestrations).

2007 Fred Ebb Award recipient Peter Mills received 2005 Drama Desk Award nominations for his show The Pursuit of Persephone, the 2003 Richard Rodgers New Horizons Award from the ASCAP Foundation, and received a 2002 grant from the Jonathan Larson Performing Arts Foundation. Most recently, he wrote music and lyrics for The Rockae, a rock musical based on The Bacchae. Other recent projects include lyrics for Iron Curtain, The Alchemists, and The Taxi Cabaret. He is a founding member of Prospect Theater Company.

Honor will be staged at the Hudson Guild Theatre, 441 West 26th Street, from April 19-May 18. Tickets, priced $20, are available by calling (212) 352-3101 or by visiting www.ProspectTheater.org.
