DiPietro and Ryan's Toxic Avenger Musical Will Have World Premiere at George Street

The George Street Playhouse will stage the world premiere of the musical The Toxic Avenger, penned by Joe DiPietro and Bon Jovi's David Bryan.
Tony Award winning Urinetown director John Rando will helm the George Street Playhouse premiere, running Sept. 30-Nov. 2.
The musical features a rock score penned by Bon Jovi keyboardist David Bryan and Joe DiPietro (All Shook Up, The Thing About Men, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change). DiPietro and Ryan will also see their musical Memphis staged by Christopher Ashley at the La Jolla Playhouse in August.
Based on the comedic 1985 B-film by Lloyd Kaufman, The Toxic Avenger follows Melvin Ferd, the local health club mop boy who winds up in a vat of radioactive sludge. Ferd inadvertently becomes New Jersey's first super hero "righting wrongs, beating bullies and seducing his ladylove, Sarah the Blind Librarian."
Songs from the rock score include "Who Will Save New Jersey?" "You Tore My Heart Out," "Hot Toxic Love," “It's a Brand New Day in New Jersey," "All Men Are Freaks" and "Evil is Hot."
Casting and additional creative duties for the George Street engagement will be announced at a later date.
The Toxic Avenger will officially open at the George Street Playhouse on Oct. 10. Tickets, priced $28-$66, go on sale March 28.
