Kron to Star in Time Is the Mercy of Eternity

By Adam Hetrick
28 Mar 2008

Obie Award winner and Tony nominee Lisa Kron will star in the world premiere of Deb Margolin's Time Is the Mercy of Eternity at the West End Theatre in April.

Time Is the Mercy of Eternity marks the first official collaboration between Kron and Margolin, an Obie winner who, like Kron, also began her career at WOW cafe as a member of the performance troupes Split Britches and the Five Lesbian Brothers.

Marc Stuart Weitz directs the production, which is comprised of four short works by Margolin. Press notes for the production describe the works in this way, "When They Quiet Down I Start introduces theatregoers to a harried bus driver plagued by noisy suicide bombers — and 72 virgins. In the darkly absurd Clarisse and Larmon a couple meticulously examines the unusual final remains of their son, a war hero killed in Iraq. Inspired by the tragic true story of the late actress Lyric Benson, The Rich Silk of It imagines the final moments of a young woman before she is murdered by her ex-fiance. And in the titular Time Is the Mercy of Eternity, a zany woman refuses to leave the home furnishings section of a department store she claims she owns."

The cast includes Curzon Dobell, Khris Lewin and Claire Siebers.

The creative team for Time Is the Mercy of Eternity includes Kerry Lee Chipman (set design), Anjeanette Stokes (lighting design), Elizabeth B. Carlin (costume design), Geo Wyeth (sound design) and Zack Sultan (video design).

Margolin has penned O Yes I Will, Index to Idioms, Critical Mass and Three Seconds in the Key. An anthology of her works, "Of All the Nerve: Deb Margolin: Solo" is currently available.

Lisa Kron's Well opened on Broadway in March 2006 and received two Tony nominations. In addition to Well, playwright-performer Kron also penned 2.5 Minute Ride (Obie Award, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle nomination, LA Drama-Logue Award and the GLAAD Media Award) and 101 Humiliating Stories. As an actress, she has appeared in The Vagina Monologues and The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told.

A co-production of Six Figures Theatre Company and Purple Man Theater Company, Time Is the Mercy of Eternity begins previews April 21 and will officially open April 22 at the West End Theatre, located at 263 W. 86th Street.

Tickets for the limited engagement, running through May 10, are available by phoning (212) 868-4444 or by visiting www.smarttix.com.
