Daisey's The Moon Is a Dead World Featured in Soho Rep Readings

By Adam Hetrick
31 Mar 2008

The tenth season of Soho Rep's Writer/Director Lab Readings will commence with monologist Mike Daisey's The Moon Is a Dead World April 7.

Each year Soho Rep commissions six playwrights to collaborate with directors to create an original project. The teams work for nine months on their projects, which are then presented in a series of free readings to the public in April and May.

The 2008-2009 schedule includes theatrical activist and monologist Daisey's The Moon Is a Dead World, under the direction of Maria Goyanes, April 7. Following will be The Past Is Not a Foreign Country: (Very Personal) Maps of Seattle by Mallery Avidon. Jose Zayas directs the reading scheduled for April 14.

Amber Reed's Mr. Apocope, directed by Alec Duffy, will be presented April 20. Precious Little, penned by Madeleine George and directed by Miriam Weiner, will be offered April 28. The final two presentations include Labyrinth: A Spectacle with Stories by Dan LeFranc, directed by Linsay Firman on May 5; and Deron Bos' Putting the Days to Bed, staged by Jimena Duca, on May 11.

To mark the tenth anniversary of Soho Rep's Writer/Director Lab series, the company is currently planning an anthology of works chronicling its 2008-2008 season.

Many of the works developed by Soho Rep's Lab have found after-life at the Atlantic Theater, Primary Stages, the Vineyard Theatre, the Public Theater, MCC, Manhattan Theater Club, New York Theater Workshop, Sundance, the Denver Center, the Huntington Theatre Company and Yale Rep.
