Lee Tergesen will join Kellie Overbey, Brian J. Smith and J. Smith-Cameron in Off-Broadway production of Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's Good Boys and True at Second Stage Theatre.

Scott Ellis directs the New York production, which is scheduled to begin previews April 23 and open May 19 at the midtown stage. The run is currently slated through June 1.

Set "against a backdrop of 1980's privilege and power," Good Boys and True follows "a disturbing scandal at an all-boys prep school [that] forces a mother (Smith-Cameron) to confront the truth about her son (Smith) and herself," show notes reveal.

Tergesen joins a cast that includes the previously announced Overbey (The Coast of Utopia), Smith (Come Back, Little Sheba) and Smith-Cameron (After the Night and the Music) as well as Christopher Abbott and Betty Gilpin.

Known for his work on stage and screen, Tergesen appeared in the HBO series "Oz" and Off-Broadway opposite Matthew Broderick in The Foreigner. Other credits include The Exonerated, "Desperate Housewives," "The Unit," "E.R.," "Rescue Me" and the films "Monster," "Point Break" and more.

The design team includes Derek McLane (scenic), Tom Broeker (costume), Kenneth Posner (lighting) and Lewis Flinn (original music).

Second Stage has helped nurture the talent of playwright Aguirre-Sacasa. His The Mystery Plays was part of the troupe's Uptown series in 2004. At the midtown stage, he served as the NEA/TCG Playwright-in-Residence during the 2004 and 2005 seasons and currently is part of the Time Warner Commissioning Program Theatre.

Good Boys and True made its world premiere with Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company in a production staged by Pam McKinnon (Peter and Jerry) in December 2007.

Aguirre-Sacasa has also penned the plays Based on a Totally True Story, Dark Matters, The Muckle Man, The Velvet Sky, Rough Magic, The Weird, Golden Age and Say You Love Satan. He has also served as a writer for HBO's "Big Love," a developing Fox series "Howl" and Marvel Comics' "Angel: Revelations" and "The Dead of Night: Man-Thing."

Director Ellis is currently represented on Broadway by Curtains and regionally by the national tour of Twelve Angry Men. He last staged The Little Dog Laughed at Second Stage. Other credits include The Boys From Syracuse, The Rainmaker, 1776, She Loves Me, Picnic, Entertaining Mr. Sloane, The Waverly Gallery and the NYC Opera staging of A Little Night Music.

Tickets to shows at Second Stage Theatre, 307 West 43rd Street, are available for purchase by calling (212) 246-4422 or online at 2ST.com.
