Cheyenne Jackson, who plays Sonny in the Broadway musical Xanadu at the Helen Hayes Theatre, has been cast in the new film "Shifting the Canvas."

Directed by Chuck Griffith, the film, press notes state, "tells the story about a group of artists living in Williamsburg, Brooklyn who struggle to maintain a rather dysfunctional family of friends in a post-9/11 world challenged by gentrification, deception and sterilization."

Jackson will play the role of Jens, a "straight Ivy League type who works on Wall Street with Denton, a young gay character that recently relocated to New York from the South, who is trying to reconcile his newfound sexuality and relationship with everybody around him."

In a statement director Griffith said, "Cheyenne is the caliber of actor that a director looks for in commanding a scene. I am both humbled and excited to work with this gifted actor of stage and screen."

"Shifting the Canvas" will also feature the talents of Scott Thompson ("Kids in the Hall"), John Paul Pitoc ("Trick"), Gedde Watanabe ("Sixteen Candles") and Matthew Montgomery ("Long-Term Relationship") with cameo appearances by various New York nightlife icons."

Principal photography is set to begin June 1. Filming will not interfere with Jackson's Xanadu performance schedule.

Cheyenne Jackson, who was seen in the film "United 93," has appeared on Broadway in Xanadu, All Shook Up, Aida and Thoroughly Modern Millie. He starred in the premiere cast of Altar Boyz, and his regional credits include West Side Story, The Most Happy Fella, Children of Eden, Hair, Carousel, Damn Yankees and Kismet. Jackson is a member of the Broadway Inspirational Voices and was recently seen Off-Broadway in The Agony and the Agony.
