Harris and Saltzberg to Star in Girls Day, or Britney and Tara Stare Into the Void

By Andrew Gans
21 Apr 2008

Theatre World and Lortel Award winner Jenn Harris will play Britney Spears with Drama Desk Award winner Sara Saltzberg as Tara Reid in Girls Day, or Britney and Tara Stare Into the Void and the Void Stares Back, which begins its Off-Broadway run May 11 at Ace of Clubs.

In addition to Harris (Modern Orthodox, Silence! The Musical) and Saltzberg (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee), the cast will also feature Patch Darragh (All That I Will Ever Be, Crimes of the Heart) as K-Fed and Kathy Searle (Theater Couture's Carrie, Pinkalicious). Evan Cabnet directs the limited engagement, which runs through June 2.

Steven Levenson's "tragi-comedy" is described as such: "Dateline: Los Angeles, California. March 21, 2007. Britney Spears checks out of Promises Treatment Center after a one-month stint in rehab. So what's next for the derailed pop princess? GIRLS DAY, natch! Britney calls up gal pal Tara Reid to join her for one special, unforgettable day. An American tragedy, with special guest appearances by Jayden James, Sean Preston, a publicist, a social worker and, of course, K-Fed."

In a statement playwright Levensen said, "This play is only very peripherally based on true events. To paraphrase Paula Vogel, the play is one westerner's misunderstanding of his own culture."

Show times are Sundays and Mondays at 8 PM; there will be no performance May 25.

Ace of Clubs is located at 9 Great Jones Street. Tickets, priced $18, are available by visiting www.SpinCycleNYC.com or by calling (212) 352-3101.
