Blonde's Bundy and Canaan to Offer "Take It From the Top" Workshop

By Adam Hetrick
05 May 2008

Tony nominee Laura Bell Bundy and fellow Legally Blonde cast member Paul Canaan will lead a new musical theatre workshop entitled "Take It From the Top."

Bundy – who frequently lends her time to various theatre seminars and intensives aimed at young performers – was inspired to create her own program with Canaan that will offer classes in New York, Bundy's hometown of Lexington, KY, as well as in Nashville, St. Louis, Southern California and at Michigan State University.

"Take It From the Top" students will participate in choreography sessions, music lessons, and acting and theatre history classes taught by Bundy and Canaan. Additional Broadway professionals are also expected to lend their expertise.

The workshops allow students to rehearse and perform their material for a panel of professionals, who will then offer critique and feedback. A question-and-answer session with Bundy and Canaan will follow each workshop.

Dates currently available include May 19 (4-7 PM) and June 20 (3-6 PM) at New Dance Group Studio, 305 West 38th Street in Manhattan. A separate audition intensive – limited to 15 high school and college students pursuing arts education and a career on the stage – will be offered June 27 (3-6 PM) at New Dance Group.

Tuition cost for "Take It From the Top" is $150, and a portion of all proceeds will benefit Bundy's non-profit Kreative Kids Foundation.

Bundy's non-profit organization supports underprivileged children through education, encouragement, guidance and support in the creative and performing arts. The support comes in the form of scholarship and educational programming for Child Services, children's hospitals, orphanages, foster home facilities, museums, theatres and other non-profit arts organizations.

Legally Blonde and Bundy fans also have the opportunity to meet Broadway's Elle Woods and contribute to the Kreative Kids Foundation by visiting www.Charityfolks.com. Bundy is currently auctioning off a package that includes two tickets to Legally Blonde on Broadway, a champagne toast with the Tony nominee, a backstage tour as well as an autographed Playbill, poster and Elle Woods' resume prop from the musical. Theatregoers will also find many other Broadway musicals offering packages in return for charitable contributions on the Charity Folks site.

In addition to her Tony-nominated work as the pink-clad Elle Woods in the musical adaptation of Legally Blonde, Bundy originated the role of Amber von Tussle in the Broadway cast of the Tony-winning musical Hairspray, and stood by for Kristin Chenoweth as Glinda in the Broadway production of Wicked. Her other theatrical credits include Gypsy, Damn Yankees, Grease!, Pajama Game and The Sound of Music. On screen Bundy has been seen in "Dreamgirls," "Guiding Light," "Jumanji," "Life with Mikey," "Adventures of Huck Finn," "Home Improvement" and "Strangers with Candy."
