Durang and Adrift in Macao Cast Set for Barnes and Noble Appearance

By Adam Hetrick
06 May 2008

The cast and creators of Off-Broadway's Adrift in Macao will perform at the Lincoln Triangle Barnes and Noble May 14.

The in-store appearance follows the nationwide release of the musical's original Off-Broadway cast album on May 13. Playwright and Macao lyricist Christopher Durang and composer Peter Melnick are slated to attend the performance and signing.

At 6 PM Adrift in Macao cast members Alan Campbell, Will Swenson, Rachel Debenedet, Orville Mendoza and Kaitlin Hopkins will perform songs from the production that played a limited Off-Broadway engagement at 59E59 Theatres last February.

"Adrift in Macao," according to press notes, is "a madcap musical parody of glamorous films noirs [that] features the leading lady who can't really sing yet somehow always manages to book a gig, and the mysterious leading man who can't go home for murky reasons he won't explain. From the opium dens of China to seedy bars in New York, this hilarious romp from Durang and Melnick takes audiences through the post-WWII years with plenty of intrigue and wit, and a playfully melodic score."

Songs on the recording include:

"Prologue"
"In A Foreign City"
"Grumpy Mood"
"Tempura's Song"
"Mister McGuffin"
"Pretty Moon Over Macao"
"Mambo Malaysian"
"Sparks"
"Adrift in Macao"
"So Long"
"Rick's Song"
"The Chase"
"I'm Actually Irish"
"Ticky Ticky Tock"

The Barnes and Noble at Lincoln Triangle is located at 1972 Broadway at 66th Street in Manhattan. For further information call (212) 595-6859 or visit www.bn.com.
