Adams, Depp and Blonsky Nominated for MTV Movie Awards

By Adam Hetrick
07 May 2008

The stars of "Hairspray," "Sweeney Todd" and "Enchanted" are among the celebrities competing for the MTV Movie Awards.

The annual awards show allows viewers the chance to nominate and vote for their favorite films. Awards are presented in the categories of Best Comedic Performance, Best Female Performance, Best Male Performance, Breakthrough Performance, and Best Movie; as well as the tongue-in-cheek slots for Best Fight, Best Kiss, Best Villain and Best Summer Movie So Far.

Nominees in the Best Villain category include Johnny Depp ("Sweeney Todd) and Denzel Washington ("American Gangster"); Washington also received a nomination for Best Male Performance.

"Enchanted" star Amy Adams is nominated for Best Comedic Performance and Best Female Performance; she also scored a nod for "Best Kiss" with "Enchanted" co-star Patrick Dempsey.

"Hairspray" star Nikki Blonsky was acknowledged for her work as dance revolutionary Tracy Turnblad in the Breakthrough Performance slot, as was her co-star, Zac Efron, for his performance as crooner Link Larkin.

In the category of "Best Summer Movie So Far" is the upcoming film of "Sex and the City," which features a host of theatre actors.

The MTV Movie Awards will be presented June 1 at 8 PM on the MTV Network. To vote for the 2008 MTV Movie Awards, visit www.mtv.com.
