Best and Smith Join Falco for Showtime Pilot

By Adam Hetrick
08 May 2008

Tony nominees Anna Deavere Smith and Eve Best have joined Frankie and Johnny star Edie Falco in an untitled pilot for Showtime.

In the new comedy Falco portrays a New York City nurse trying to balance her work and tumultuous personal life. The Hollywood Reporter states that Smith has signed on as a recurring character alongside actors Paul Schulze, Merritt Wever, Haaz Sleiman and Peter Facinelli.

Best and Facinelli have been cast as doctors at the hospital, with Smith as a hospital administrator. Schulze stars opposite Falco as her pharmacist boyfriend with Wever and Sleiman as a fellow nurses.

The show's writers include Liz Brixius, Evan Dunsky and Linda Wallem.

Edie Falco's Broadway credits include Frankie and Johnny, Side Man and the recent revival of Marsha Norman's 'night Mother opposite Brenda Blethyn. The Golden Globe-winning actress is known for her television roles on "The Sopranos" and "Oz."

Eve Best has appeared on Broadway in the revivals of A Moon for the Misbegotten and this season's The Homecoming.
