Jaradoa's Small of Her Back, with Rivera and O'Grady, Begins May 9

By Andrew Gans
09 May 2008

After the success of Jaradoa Theater's premiere production, Serenade, the fledgling theatre company now offers a limited engagement of The Small of Her Back beginning May 9.

April Nickell directs Russell Leigh Sharman's new work, which will play the 411 Theater on West 43rd Street through May 19. The cast features Eileen Rivera as Piper and Jeremy O'Grady as John.

The Small of Her Back, according to press notes, "introduces us to Piper, a self-diagnosed bi-polar shut-in with OCD who spends much of her time in Internet chat rooms. Six months ago, Piper met Mollie online, and Mollie changed everything. Now, a knock on the door jolts Piper into the world of flesh and bone. John Sharp, Mollie's brother, was sent to talk Piper out of the things she is threatening. But John may not be who he claims to be."

The design team comprises scenic designer Brandon Giles, costume designer Andrea Varga, lighting designer Zack Tinkelman and sound designer Pea-Jae Stasuk. John Martinez is production manager with Robert E. Schneider producing.

Eileen Rivera has been seen Off-Broadway in Serenade, Sides: The Fear is Real, Dogeaters, Shanghai Lil's and Cambodia Agonistes. Jeremy O'Grady's theatre credits include The Subject Was Roses and All My Sons.

Show times are May 9-12 and May 16-19 at 8 PM.

The 411 Theater is located in Manhattan at 300 West 43rd Street, 4th Floor, between Eighth and Ninth Avenues. Tickets, priced $18, are available by visiting Smartix.com or by calling (212) 868-4444. For more information go to www.jaradoatheater.org.
