York Season Will Feature Murphy and Wiley in Vaudeville Man Plus Enter Laughing

The York Theatre Company's 2008-2009 season will feature a revival of Enter Laughing — a hit from the York's Musical in Mufti series — as well as the new musical Vaudeville Man!
Enter Laughing, which has a book by Joseph Stein and a score by Stan Daniels, will begin performances at the Off-Broadway company Sept. 3. Stuart Ross will direct the production; casting will be announced at a later date.
Enter Laughing is based on Stein's play, which was based on Carl Reiner's semi-autobiographical novel. It was originally
titled So Long, 174th Street. The musical, press notes state, tells "the hilarious story of young aspiring actor David Kolowitz in 1930s New York City as he tries to free himself from overly protective parents and girlfriends, all the while struggling to meet the challenge of an immense lack of talent."
Vaudeville Man, a new musical based on the life of tap dancer Jack Donahue, will follow with performances scheduled to begin Nov. 7. The musical, which premiered at the NY Musical Theatre Festival under the title Mud Donahue & Son, will co-star Shonn Wiley and Karen Murphy as, respectively, "the story of a boy born to dance and the mother who fought to keep him home," according to the York.
The new musical — based on Donahue's "Letters of a Hoofer to His Ma" — features a book by Jeff Hochhauser, music by Bob Johnston and lyrics by Johnston and Hochhauser. Lynne Taylor-Corbett will direct and choreograph the production, which will feature scenic design by James Morgan, costume design by David Toser, lighting design by Jason Kantrowitz and musical direction by Douglas Oberhamer.
