Kushner, who served as a script doctor for the Spielberg-helmed "Munich," is at work penning the new screenplay, Variety reports. "The Uniter: The Genius of Abraham Lincoln" – by Pulitzer Prize-winning author and presidential historian Doris Kearns Goodwin – serves as the factual inspiration for the biopic.
Spielberg has cast his Oscar-nominated "Schindler's List" star Liam Neeson as America's sixteenth president. The untitled DreamWorks film is aiming for a 2009 production start date.
Neeson, a two-time Tony nominee, has appeared on Broadway in The Crucible, The Judas Kiss and Anna Christie. His noted screen credits include "Kinsey," "Love Actually," "Gangs of New York," "Nell," and "Leap of Faith."
