Broderick, Johnston, Baitz, Rebeck and Tomei Set for Angels in Progress Series

Tony Award winner Matthew Broderick and Academy Award-winning actress Marisa Tomei (currently back on Broadway in Top Girls) will take part in Angels in Progress, a new works series presented by Naked Angels.

Naked Angels artistic director Geoffrey Nauffts has announced the creation of a workshop that will present free staged readings of new American plays in various stages of development. Angels in Progress will be in residence for two weeks at the New School for Drama (151 Bank Street).

Angels in Progress, running May 28-June 9, boasts a roster of participants – some of whom are Angels founding members – including Casey Affleck, John Robin Baitz, Josh Hamilton, Kyle Jarrow, Kristen Johnston, Doug Paulson, Larry Pine, Theresa Rebeck and Elizabeth Swados.

The program for Angels in Progress follows:

  • Prix Fixe
    Directed by Trip Cullman.
    Featuring Matthew Broderick and Barrett Foa.
    "A delicious tasting menu of four courses by John Robin Baitz." (May 28, 3PM & 7 PM)

  • The Investigation of Solitude
    By Nicole Burdette, directed by Pippin Parker.
    Featuring Marisa Tomei.
    "A woman revisits her past with an Irish American family in this classic drama investigating the human condition." (May 29, 2 PM)

  • Driving the Saudis
    Written by and featuring Jane Amelia Larson.
    Directed by Charlie Stratton.
    "A frequently hilarious, eye-opening look into the power and reach of the Saudi royal family and their American 'friends.'" (May 29, 7 PM)

  • Slurry
    Written and directed by Keith Bunin and Stephen Belber.
    Featuring Mia Barron, Bunin and Belber.
    "Two brothers hash it out in this funny, moving, and profane debate on what it means to make a difference in the world." (May 30, 3 PM)

  • Dispatches
    Written and directed by Elizabeth Swados.
    Featuring David Driver, Chris Gleim, Blythe Gruda, Simotra Houston, Jo Lampert and Grace McLean, Caitlin Mulhern, Jeremy Pasha, Doug Paulson and Rachel Stern.

  • Studies for a Portrait
    Written by Daniel Reitz.
    Directed by Geoffrey Nauffts.
    Featuring Peter Frechette, Larry Pine and Chris Stack.

  • Trigger
    By Kyle Jarrow.
    Directed by Pippin Parker.

  • Poor Behavior
    Written by Theresa Rebeck.
    Directed by Doug Hughes.
    Featuring Danny Gerroll and Laila Robins.
    "Did they or didn't they? In this dark comedy, suspicions of infidelity fracture a weekend in the country and raise the question of whether cheating just might be a moral act." (June 5, 3 PM and 7 PM)

  • Medieval Play
    Written and directed by Kenneth Lonergan.
    Featuring Matthew Broderick, Josh Hamilton, Casey Affleck, Kristen Johnston and Bradley White.

  • The Gospel According to Adam
    Written by Geoffrey Nauffts.
    Directed by Sheryl Kaller.
    "In this poignant and often hilarious exploration of faith and reason in modern culture, one man struggles for salvation while the other hangs by a thread." (June 9, 7 PM)

    Founded in 1986, Naked Angels has presented the premieres of Warren Leight's Side Man, John Robin Baitz's The Substance of Fire, Kenneth Lonergan's The Starry Messenger and David Marshall Grant's Snakebit.
