South Coast Rep's Taking Steps Takes First Step May 16

By Kenneth Jones
16 May 2008

South Coast Repertory's new production of Alan Ayckbourn's farce Taking Steps begins May 16, playing to June 15, on the Segerstrom Stage in Costa Mesa, CA.

The door-slamming troupers include Bill Brochtrup, Emily Eiden, Louis Lotorto, Kasey Mahaffy, Rob Nagle and Kirsten Potter.

Art Manke, winner of the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for his direction of last season's Bach at Leipzig, directs. Brochtrup is a veteran of TV's "NYPD Blue." He appeared Off-Broadway in David Marshall Grant's Snakebit.

Opening night is May 23.

"The lunacy takes place in a reputedly haunted Victorian house where a sale is about to be completed, depending upon which door opens next and what's going on behind it," according to SCR. "Hilarious complications ensue as men and women, attached and unattached, emerge from bedrooms above, mid-level and below, and along a very crowded hallway. Ayckbourn is one of the world's most successful living playwrights and a South Coast Repertory audience favorite. Taking Steps is the ninth Ayckbourn play produced at SCR."

The creative team for Taking Steps includes Ralph Funicello (set design), Angela Balogh Calin (costume design), Geoff Korf (lighting design), David Nevell (voice and dialect coach), Darin Anthony (assistant director) and Julie Haber (stage manager).

SCR is located at 655 Town Center Drive in Costa Mesa, CA. For more information visit www.scr.org or call (714) 708-5555.
