Yale Rep Asks Happy Now? As Final Entry for 2008-2009 Season

Yale Repertory Theatre has finalized its 2008-2009 season with the addition of Lucinda Coxon's dark comedy Happy Now?
Happy Now? premiered to critical acclaim at London's National Theatre in 2008. Liz Diamond will direct the U.S. premiere that runs Oct. 24-Nov. 15.
Press notes for Happy Now? state, "A chance encounter at a hotel plays upon Kitty's mind as she struggles to balance personal freedom with family life, fidelity and a demanding job. Her husband is more interested in misplaced apostrophes than in their marriage, her parents are looking down the barrel of oblivion, and although she toys with the idea of joining a gym, Kitty's running out of time for big changes."
As previously announced, the Yale Rep season will commence with Sarah Ruhl's Passion Play, running Sept. 19-Oct. 11 at the University Theatre. Mark Wing-Davey directs Pulitzer finalist Ruhl's era-spanning trilogy of plays.
Tom Stoppard's Rough Crossing runs Nov. 28-Dec. 20 at the University Theatre. Mark Rucker directs the work from the Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright that concerns "a brand new musical comedy [that] is about to debut on Broadway, but it doesn't have an ending yet. Also, the beginning needs a little work. And the middle is a mess."
The East Coast premiere of Octavio Solis' Lydia, under the direction of Juliette Carrillo, will be seen at the Yale Repertory Theatre Feb. 6, 2009-Feb. 28, 2009. Lydia, which is set in the 1970s, concerns "the Flores family [who] welcome Lydia, an undocumented maid, into their El Paso home to care for their daughter Cecí, who was tragically disabled in a car accident on the eve of her quinceañera, her fifteenth birthday."
The world premiere of Notes From Underground will follow. Adapted from Fyodor Dostoevsky's novel by Robert Woodruff and Bill Camp, the production will play the Yale Repertory Theatre March 20-April 11, 2009. Woodruff will direct Notes, which will star Camp. Yale Rep describes the play thusly: "'I am a sick man…I am a wicked man,' cries the Underground Man, one of modern literature's first, and most remarkable, antiheros. A former government official who has defiantly withdrawn from a corrupt society, the Underground Man wages his own personal war on everything—and everyone—around him."
Arthur Miller's Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning Death of a Salesman is the final Yale Repertory Theatre offering, running April 24-May 23, 2009. Directed by James Bundy, the classic work will feature Charles S. Dutton as Willy Loman, "the traveling salesman, haunted by missed opportunities and an uncertain future, [who] must come to terms with a lifetime of self-deception that has distorted his dream into an American tragedy."
