"A Salute to Rodgers & Hammerstein's South Pacific" is the title of a May 17 television special that will air in the metropolitan area on WABC-TV.

The 30-minute special is scheduled to make its TV premiere at 7:30 PM ET on WABC-TV (Channel 7 in the New York area); check local listings. A rebroadcast is scheduled for May 25 at 5:30 AM.

Hosted by news anchor Sade Baderinwa, the program offers a behind-the-scenes look at the critically acclaimed revival that recently opened at Lincoln Center's Vivian Beaumont Theater. The broadcast also includes rarely-seen footage of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II as well as performance footage of original South Pacific stars Mary Martin and Ezio Pinza.

The original cast recording of the Lincoln Center Theater production of South Pacific will be released May 27 by Sony Masterworks.
