Harwood's Quartet to Make Music on Screen

Variety reports that Harwood, who earned an Oscar for "The Pianist," is at work penning the screenplay based on his 1999 play. Casting and production dates have not been set.
Quintet centers on four elderly opera singers who must put aside their differences when they reunite to perform the third act quartet from Rigoletto for a gala concert celebrating Verdi's birthday.
Harwood previously adapted his stage works The Dresser and Taking Sides for the screen. His plays also include Goodbye Kiss/Guests, After the Lions, The Good Companions, Mahler's Conversion and See U Next Tuesday. He has penned the screenplays for "Being Julia," "Love in the Time of Cholera," "Operation Daybreak," "The Statement" and his 2008 Academy Award-nominated work "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly."
