Edelman and Lloyd Join Carnegie Hall Show Boat Cast; Ensemble Announced

Gregg Edelman and John Bedford Lloyd are the final additions to the principal cast of the June 10 concert staging of Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II's Show Boat at Carnegie Hall.
Edelman, a Tony nominee for his performances in City of Angels, Anna Karenina, 1776 and Into the Woods, will play Steve Baker, and Lloyd, seen on Broadway in Some Americans Abroad, The Rainmaker and Tartuffe, will be Vallon.
Edelman and Lloyd join a cast that includes the previously announced Becky Ann Baker (Parthy Ann Hawks), Carolee Carmello (Julie LaVerne), Alteouise deVaughn (Queenie), Megan Sikora (Ellie May Chipley), Nathan Gunn (Gaylord Ravenal), Jonathan Hadary (Cap'n Andy), Marilyn Horne (Old Lady on the Levee), Gavin Lee (Frank Schultz), Alvy Powell (Joe), Celena Shafer (Magnolia Hawks) and Carly Rose Sonenclar (Kim). Show time is 8 PM.
The Show Boat vocal ensemble will feature Derin Altay,

Eric Michael Gillett, Fred Inkley, Aaron Lee Lambert, C. Mingo Long, Jay Lusteck, JC Montgomery, Devin Richards, Jim Weitzer, Charles West, Osborn Focht, Gavin Gregory, T. Doyle Leverett, Robert Ousley and Dathan B. Williams.
The dance ensemble will comprise Lawrence Alexander, Stephanie Battle, Eric Jackson, Courtney Jones, Anna Kaiser, Travis Kelley, Chad L. Schiro and Alison Solomon.
Musical director Paul Gemignani will conduct the Orchestra of St. Luke's. The creative team will also feature Robert Longbottom (musical staging), Doug Wright (concert adaptation), lighting designer Alan Adelman, scenic designer Scott Pask and costume designer Gregg Barnes with sound design by Acme Sound Partners.
The Carnegie Hall staging will also include period costumes, dancers and onstage projections. The projections, according to press notes, "will consist of pen-and-ink illustrations and sketches projected on the back wall of the stage to depict the passage of time from the late 19th to early 20th centuries during which the musical takes place."
Show Boat has music by Jerome Kern and book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein and is based on the novel by Edna Ferber. The original Broadway production opened at the Ziegfeld Theatre on Dec. 27, 1927. Harold Prince directed the most recent Broadway production of the musical, which opened in 1994.
The musical was the first to tackle such weighty issues as racial prejudice, poverty and abandonment. The show's songs include "Make Believe," "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man," "Bill" and "Ol' Man River."
