Second Stage Unveils New Works Fest with Time Warner-Commissioned Playwrights

By Ernio Hernandez
20 May 2008

Off-Broadway's Second Stage Theatre has announced a festival of new works featuring developing plays by Zakiyyah Alexander, J. Holtham, Rajiv Joseph, Sandra Tsing Loh, Sung Rno, Betty Shamieh, Cheryl L. West and Tracey Scott Wilson.

The by-invitation-only "Second Stage Theatre New Works Festival," which will play June 13 at 11 AM on the company's midtown mainstage, will feature "readings of selected scenes from eight of the ten new plays from the Time Warner Commissioning Program," according to the announcement.

The works to be presented are:

  • 10 Things to Do Before I Die by Zakiyyah Alexander
  • Manifesto by J. Holtham
  • Animals Out of Paper by Rajiv Joseph (to be seen this summer in the Uptown Series)
  • Mothers on Fire by Sandra Tsing Loh
  • Happy by Sung Rno
  • As Soon as Impossible by Betty Shamieh
  • Wash Your Rabbit by Cheryl L. West
  • Buzzer by Tracey Scott Wilson

The two other Time Warner-commissioned playwrights, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Lynn Nottage, will attend the festival to discuss their plays but will not present a scene.
