Darragh, Narciso and Weixler Will Play It Safe Off-Broadway

By Andrew Gans
27 May 2008

Studio Dante — the theatre company founded in 2003 by Michael and Victoria Imperioli — will present a limited Off-Broadway engagement of Ron Fitzgerald's Safe beginning June 10.

Directed by Zetna Fuentes, the production will officially open at Studio Dante June 14 and play through June 28. The cast will feature Patch Darragh (Crimes of the Heart), Alfredo Narciso (A Streetcar Named Desire) and Jess Weixler ("Teeth").

"Ginger, Van and Muzzy are relative strangers bound by self-destructive tendencies and the common desire for a fresh start," according to Safe press notes. "From Mobile to Chicago, they travel from city to city, doing whatever it takes to survive. As Ginger and Van's relationship intensifies so do their troubles, and Muzzy begins some soul searching of his own."

The creative team also includes Victoria Imperioli (set and costume design), Tony Giovannetti (lighting design) and David M. Lawson (sound design).

Playwright Fitzgerald is also the author of Cyclone, Parts Unknown, The River, Hair of the Dog, Jem & I and an adaptation of Mark Twain's The Diaries of Adam and Eve.

Show times are Tuesday-Saturday at 8 PM.

Studio Dante is located in Manhattan at 257 West 29th Street, between Seventh and Eighth Avenues. Tickets, priced $35, are available by calling (212) 868-4444 or by visiting www.smarttix.com.
