The new musical Xanadu — recently nominated for four 2008 Tony Awards, including Best Musical — is scheduled to open in London's West End in spring 2009 at a theatre to be announced.

Producers David Ian and John Gore are currently working with Xanadu's Broadway producers — Robert Ahrens, Tara Smith, Brian Swibel, Cari Smulyan, Dale Smith and Dan Vickery — to bring the acclaimed show to London audiences.

As previously announced, Xanadu — based on the infamous film of the same name — will launch its national tour this fall at the La Jolla Playhouse, playing Nov. 11-Dec. 21. Xanadu will then head to a Chicago theatre to be announced for a six-month run beginning in January 2009.

The New York company of Xanadu currently features Cheyenne Jackson, Kerry Butler, Tony Roberts, Jackie Hoffman, Mary Testa, Kenita Miller, Patti Murin, Kyle Dean Massey and Andre Ward.

Xanadu boasts a book by Little Dog Laughed playwright Douglas Carter Beane and utilizes songs from John Farrar and Jeff Lynne's film soundtrack. The musical, according to press notes, "tells the story of one of the nine muses of ancient Greece who comes to earth to inspire the greatest of artistic achievements – a roller disco. Along the way she falls in love, bumps into an old acquaintance and for the first time, feels the desire to create herself."

The Xanadu cast recording is available on the PS Classics label.

The Helen Hayes Theatre is located in Manhattan at 240 West 44th Street. For tickets call (212) 239-6200.
