Peterson Is Kipps in Goodspeed's Half a Sixpence

Jon J. Peterson, the triple threat who wowed audiences as the famed showman in Off-Broadway's George M. Cohan Tonight!, will play the charmer Arthur Kipps in Goodspeed Musicals' new summer production of Half a Sixpence.

The British musical comedy based on the H.G. Wells novel "Kipps" was a vehicle for toothy Tommy Steele in London and on Broadway and is billed as "a bouncy, romantic musical" about "young Arthur Kipps — a Cockney shop clerk who inherits a fortune, flirts with 'society,' loses his money and winds up happier without it."

It includes the memorable number, "If the Rain's Got to Fall." The show's cast album and film version boast boisterous up-tempo numbers. Music and lyrics are by David Heneker, and the book is by Beverly Cross.

Gordon Greenberg will direct. Additional casting will be announced soon. Performances will play Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, CT, July 11-Sept. 19.

Peterson played Kipps in a separate Musicals Tonight! concert of the show in New York City earlier this year.

He was a 2006 Drama Desk Award nominee, Best Solo Performance, for Irish Rep's production of George M. Cohan Tonight! He played the Emcee in Cabaret on Broadway and on tour. His U.K. credits include The Sound of Music with Petula Clarke (Rolf), A Chorus Line (Paul), Dames at Sea (Lucky), She Loves Me (Bus Boy), Cats and more.
