A Bronx Tale, Chazz Palminteri's one-man show that ended its extended engagement on Broadway in February, will launch its national tour in September.

The tour will kick off Sept. 2 in Austin, TX, at The Long Center for the Performing Arts followed by engagements in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Directed by Jerry Zaks, the semi-autobiographical solo show will continue touring through June 2009.

As previously announced, Bronx Tale will play Los Angeles' Wadsworth Theatre Sept. 9-21 and San Francisco's Golden Gate Theatre Sept. 23-Oct. 19. According to BroadwayAcrossAmerica.com, the national tour of Bronx Tale has also scheduled stops at Washington, DC's Warner Theatre (Feb. 24-March 8, 2009), Milwaukee's Uihlein Hall (March 24-29, 2009), Boston's Colonial Theatre (March 31-April 11), Baltimore's Hippodrome Theatre at the France-Merrick P.A.C. (April 14-26, 2009) and Minneapolis' State Theatre (June 2-7). Additional venues are expected.

GO Productions is producing the tour, which will feature set design by James Noone, lighting design by Paul Gallo and original music and sound design by John Gromada.

Bronx Tale — which Palminteri performed in Los Angeles and Off-Broadway in the late '80s, inspiring the 1993 film of the same name — began previews at Broadway's Walter Kerr Theatre Oct. 4, 2007, and officially opened Oct. 25.

The 18-week run, which had been scheduled to end Feb. 10, was extended through Feb. 24 due to ticket demand. The Zaks-directed production played a total of 19 previews and 108 regular performances.

Go Productions, in association with Jujamcyn Theaters, produced the New York run. The show was one of the many darkened by the 2007 stagehands strike.

In A Bronx Tale, Palminteri plays 18 roles that depict "a rough childhood on Bronx streets populated by a cast of friends and enemies," according to press notes.

Palminteri has also been seen on screen in "The Usual Suspects" and "Bullets Over Broadway"; he received an Academy Award nomination for his work in the latter. His last New York stage appearance was in the 2002 Al Pacino production of The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui.
