Night Music Concerts, with Christine Ebersole, Presented June 12-14

Grey Gardens Tony Award winner Christine Ebersole plays Desiree Armfeldt in the June 12-14 concert peformances of Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's A Little Night Music at Boston's Symphony Hall.
The three concerts at Boston's Symphony Hall also feature Ron Raines as Fredrik Egerman and Bobbie Steinbach as Madame Armfeldt as well as the Boston Pops orchestra conducted by Keith Lockhart. (Steinbach, a member of the Boston theatre community recently seen as Lady Bracknell in the Lyric Stage production of The Importance of Being Earnest, stepped in at the last minute for the previously announced Mary Louise Wilson, who withdrew "due to a scheduling conflict," according to a June 11 press statement.)
The 8 PM concerts also boast the Tanglewood Music Center Fellows. (Tanglewood will present this cast in Night Music July 8 at 8:30 PM.)
Joining Ebersole, Raines and Steinbach onstage are Katie Henney as Fredrika Armfeldt and Tanglewood Music Center fellows Ashley Logan as Ann Egerman, Zachary Wilder as Henrik Egerman, Matthew Worth as Count Carl-Magnus Malcolm, Kathrine Growdon as Countess Charlotte Malcolm and Rebecca Jo Loeb as Petra. The Liebeslieder Singers include Emily Hindrichs, Charlene Santoni, Kristen Hoff, Mark Van Arsdale and Christopher Johnstone.
Casey Hushion directs the concerts with musical direction by Larry Goldberg. The libretto was adapted by Lawrence Goldberg. Tim Bennett is the assistant stage director.
A Little Night Music — featuring a score by Sondheim and a book by Wheeler — originally opened at Broadway's Shubert Theatre on Feb. 25, 1973, with a cast that included Glynis Johns as Desiree, Len Cariou as Fredrik and Hermione Gingold as Madame Armfeldt. The show, directed by Harold Prince, garnered five 1973 Tony Awards, including one for Best Musical. The Sondheim score features the composer's best-known tune, "Send in the Clowns," as well as "Every Day a Little Death," "The Miller's Son" and "A Weekend in the Country."
For her work in the dual roles of Edith Bouvier Beale and "Little" Edie Beale in the Off-Broadway and Broadway productions of Grey Gardens, Christine Ebersole was honored with the Tony Award, the Drama Desk Award, an Outer Critics Circle Award, an Obie, a special citation from the New York Drama Critics Circle and the Drama League's 2006 Distinguished Performance of the Year Award. She also received a Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for her work as Dorothy Brock in the hit revival of 42nd Street and a 2003 Tony nomination for her performance in Lincoln Center's production of Dinner at Eight. Ebersole's other Broadway credits include The Best Man, Getting Away with Murder, Harrigan 'n Hart, Camelot, Oklahoma!, On the Twentieth Century, I Love My Wife, Angel Street and the City Center Encores! productions of A Connecticut Yankee, Ziegfeld Follies of 1936, Lady in the Dark and Allegro. Ebersole was also seen Off-Broadway in Talking Heads and in the recent City Center Encores! production of Applause.
Ron Raines' many stage roles include the Broadway and national tours of Chicago, Teddy & Alice, Show Boat, The Unsinkable Molly Brown and Can-Can. Opera patrons have seen his work in Die Fledermaus as well as opposite Dame Cleo Laine in Stephen Sondheim's A Little Night Music. Raines has also performed with symphony orchestras throughout the country, and his solo recording is entitled "Ron Raines: Broadway Passion." He is perhaps best known as Alan Spaulding in the CBS daytime drama "Guiding Light."
