Danny Glover, Amanda Peet and Oliver Platt have been cast in the forthcoming apocalyptic film "2012" for Columbia Pictures.
"2012" refers to the end of the Mayan calendar, which some believe may signify the coming of the apocalypse and the onslaught of various natural disasters. Cusack portrays a man attempting to better his life, while Peet has been cast as his ex-wife.
In addition to writing the screenplay, Emmerich directs and executive produces the film that is aiming for a July 2009 release.
Glover appeared in the original 1982 production of Master Harold… and the Boys as well as the 2003 Broadway revival. Platt took to the Broadway stage as a troubled widower in the 2006 presentation of Shining City, while Peet was seen in the 2006 revival of Barefoot in the Park and the benefit performances of The 24 Hour Plays.
