Thurgood — the one-man show based on the life of the late Civil Rights great and Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall — has extended its limited engagement at Broadway's Booth Theatre.

Originally scheduled to run through Aug. 3, the production will now play an additional two weeks, according to a show spokesperson. Thurgood will run through Aug. 17.

Laurence Fishburne, who won a Tony Award for his performance in Two Trains Running, stars in the production, which features direction by Leonard Foglia (Master Class, On Golden Pond). Fishburne is currently nominated for a 2008 Tony Award for his work as the late Marshall.

Previews at the Booth began April 3, and the production officially opened April 30.

Written by George Stevens Jr., Thurgood, according to press notes, "is the remarkable and triumphant story of Thurgood Marshall, who rose from a childhood in the backstreets of Baltimore to the Supreme Court of the United States. Along the way, Mr. Marshall overcame many adversities but through them all, remained focused and positive to maintain the great country he wanted to serve. And did. Thurgood brings to the stage the words, the wit, the tenacity and the wisdom of one of America's greatest heroes."

The production features scenic design by Allen Moyer, costume design by Jane Greenwood, lighting design by Brian Nason, projection design by Elaine J. McCarthy and sound design by Ryan Rumery. Marti McIntosh is the production stage manager.

Thurgood made its premiere in 2006 at the Westport Country Playhouse. That production, also directed by Foglia, starred James Earl Jones as Marshall, who died in 1993.

The Broadway engagement is produced Vernon Jordan, The Shubert Organization, Bill Rollnick/Nancy Ellison Rollnick, Matt Murphy, Daryl Roth/Debra Black, Roy Furman, JAM Theatricals, Lawrence Horowitz, Eric Falkenstein, Max Onstage, James D'Orta, Jamie deRoy and Amy Nederlander in association with Ostar Productions in association with the Westport Country Playhouse.

Fishburne won Tony, Drama Desk and Theatre World Awards for his performance in Two Trains Running, and he was also seen on Broadway in the revival of The Lion in Winter. The actor is well known for his work in such movies as "The Matrix" trilogy, "Mission: Impossible III," "Assault on Precinct 13," "Miss Evers' Boys," "The Tuskegee Airmen," "The Color Purple," "The Cotton Club" and "Apocalypse Now," among others.

The Booth Theatre is located at 222 West 45th Street.

Tickets, priced $70-$95, are available by calling (212) 239-6200 or by visiting www.telecharge.com.
