By Robert Simonson
13 Jun 2008

Peter Murray Kapetan, an actor, singer, and dancer who most recently appeared on Broadway in The Wedding Singer, died on June 4 at the age of 51, of New York City.

Mr. Kapetan was a member of the ensemble and played a Ronald Reagan impersonator during the six-month 2006 run of The Wedding Singer. He first appeared on Broadway in the 1979 flop Got Tu Go Disco. Subsequent Broadway assignments included Sunset Boulevard and Titanic, where he served as dance captain.

National tours and Off-Broadway included Camelot (with Richard Burton), Aida, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Olympus on My Mind, and Andrew Lippa's The Wild Party.

He was born October 21, 1956. As a child in Fairfield, CT, he attended the Mill Hill and Timothy Dwight schools, before graduating from Phillips Academy at Andover. He went to college at Northwestern University. Thereafter, he received a scholarship from Chicago's Gus Giordano Dance School, where he studied tap, ballet and jazz.

He is survived by his parents, Peter and Helen Kapetan; brother, Nicholas Kapetan, all of Fairfield; sisters, Melissa (Kapetan) Russow of Milford and Christine Kapetan of Topanga, CA; nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church in Fairfield, Friday, June 13 at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Actors Fund, 729 Seventh Avenue, New York, NY 10019. Arrangements are under the direction of the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
