The Tony-nominated revival of Macbeth may have already ended its limited engagement on Broadway, but the explosive St. Ann's Warehouse open-air staging of the Shakespeare classic — by Poland's TR Warszawa — begins life in Brooklyn June 17.

Clearly New Yorkers can't get enough of Shakespeare's bloody tragedy: The production has already sold out its entire St. Ann's run even before performances have begun. Theatregoers willing to spend a bit more for their seats may still obtain tickets to the closing-night celebration of Macbeth on June 29.

Grzegorz Jarzyna directs the imported engagement of Macbeth, which is staged in an outdoor theatre – across the street from St. Ann's – in the Civil War-era Tobacco Warehouse on the Brooklyn Waterfront. The import promises to flesh out scenes in action-packed sequences only alluded to in Shakespeare's original text.

The production utilizes a dramatic two-story set, video walls, special effects and an underscore of original composition, pop songs, sound effects and spoken text. Macbeth is performed in Polish with English supertitles.

TR Warszawa was previously represented in New York with Krum, which was part of BAM's Next Wave Festival in October 2007. The Warsaw-based company produces innovatively staged adaptations of classical works and new works from emerging Polish playwrights. At the age of 30, Jarzyna is Poland's youngest theatre artistic director.
