Summer and Smoke, with Kudisch and Zimmerman, Materializes at L.A. Theater Works June 18

The L.A. Theatre Works production of Tennessee Williams' smoldering drama Summer and Smoke, co-starring Marc Kudisch and Sarah Zimmerman, begins performances June 18.

Kudisch and Zimmerman appear as John Buchanan, Jr. and Alma Winemiller, respectively, in Williams' Mississippi-set romantic drama that pits the spiritual against the sexual.

Michael Hackett directs the limited engagement, which runs through June 22 at The Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles. Part of "The Play's the Thing" series, Summer and Smoke will be recorded for future broadcast on satellite and public radio.

The cast also features Armin Shimerman (Rev. Winemiller), Kitty Swink (Mrs. Winemiller/Rosemary), Tina Sanchez (Rosa Gonazales), Tegan West (Roger Doremus), David Selby (Dr. John Buchanan, Sr.), Anne Gee Byrd (Mrs. Bassett), Gabriel Olds (Vernon/Dusty/Archie Kramer), as well as Kristen Frazier and Carlos Lacamara.

Zimmerman has appeared on Broadway in The Rivals and The Full Monty. She is a Helen Hayes Award nominee for The Matchmaker.

Marc Kudisch was most recently seen in the Off-Broadway production of The Glorious Ones at Lincoln Center Theater. A Tony nominee for his performances in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Thoroughly Modern Millie, Kudisch has also appeared in the Broadway companies of The Apple Tree, Assassins, Bells Are Ringing, The Wild Party and High Society. A Helen Hayes Award winner for The Witches of Eastwick at the Signature Theatre, Kudisch is slated to star in the new musical 9 to 5.
