Peters to Sign "Broadway Barks" in DC June 27-28

By Andrew Gans
26 Jun 2008

Tony winner Bernadette Peters.

Two-time Tony Award winner Bernadette Peters will celebrate the recent release of her best-selling children's book, "Broadway Barks," at two book-signing events in Washington, DC.

Peters will autograph copies of "Broadway Barks" June 27 at Politics and Prose beginning at 4:30 PM. The book store is located at 5015 Connecticut Avenue NW. On June 28 the singing actress, who recently filmed a role opposite Harry Connick Jr. in the new Lifetime film "Living Proof," will sign her new tome from 2:30-5:30 PM at the Hall of States Gift Shop, which is located within The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts at 2700 F Street, NW.

Peters' "Broadway Barks," which features illustrations by Liz Murphy, was released in late April on the Blue Apple Books label and boasts a CD featuring a lively reading of the story by Peters and a song ("Kramer's Song") penned by the Tony-winning Annie Get Your Gun and Song & Dance star. The children's book, the tale of a down-on-his-luck, yet scrappy dog named Kramer, benefits Broadway Barks, the charitable organization co-founded by Peters and good friend Mary Tyler Moore over a decade ago. Broadway Barks 10! is scheduled for July 12 in Shubert Alley.

Peters' new tome
Bernadette Peters was last on Broadway in the acclaimed revival of Gypsy, for which she received a 2003 Tony Award nomination for her performance as Rose in the Sam Mendes-directed production. She won her two Tonys for her performances in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Song & Dance and Irving Berlin's Annie Get Your Gun, and she has also starred on Broadway in Mack & Mabel, On the Town, Sunday in the Park with George, The Goodbye Girl and the original production of Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods. Peters' newest live recording, "Sondheim, Etc., Etc.—Bernadette Peters Live at Carnegie Hall (The Rest of It)," is available on the Angel Records label. Masterworks Broadway has also released a "Legends of Broadway" CD celebrating her theatrical career. Peters' screen credits are numerous.
