Paper Dolls, with "As the World Turns" Star Magnussen, Begins Players Theatre Run Aug. 8

By Andrew Gans
02 Jul 2008

Billy Magnussen

Lively Productions and Métropole Ink will present Paper Dolls as part of the 11th annual New York International Fringe Festival, running Aug. 8-24 at the Players Theatre.

Penned by New York Daily News columnist and playwright Patrick Huguenin, the cast will feature Ali Ahn, Allison Goldberg, Jen Jamula and "As the World Turns" star Billy Magnussen. Magnussen also made his Broadway debut last season in The Ritz.

Paper Dolls, according to press notes, is described as such: "By age 29, Claire Cunningham wields one of New York City's most poisonous pens. She has a devilishly handsome boyfriend, a permanent invite to the hottest parties, and the best of Hollywood sources — her brother Austin, a high-grossing action film star. Then a nasty bit of news changes everything. And when Claire's reunion with her ex-assistant, Tammy, turns out to be less than nostalgic, Claire and Austin become gossip targets. Will Claire's steamy sex life hit the front page? Will Austin's career hit the skids? Cue the entrance of a mysterious stranger, Isabel, who knows just a little bit too much about everyone, and this summer the heat will be in the headlines."

Gaye Taylor Upchurch directs. The production will also feature costume and scenic design by David Newell and original music composed by Julia Meinwald.

The Players Theatre is located in Manhattan at 115 MacDougal Street. Tickets, priced $15, are available by visiting www.FringeNYC.org.
