"The Johnny Mercer Celebration Concert," part of the annual Johnny Mercer Songwriters Project presented at Northwestern University's Evanston campus, will be held Aug. 16 at the Pick-Staiger Concert Hall.

The 8 PM concert will boast performances by Tony Award-winning Aida star Heather Headley, composer Andrew Lippa, Nashville recording artist Lari White and Chicago cabaret duo Beckie Menzie and Tom Michael as well as students of the Northwestern Music Theatre Program. Tickets are priced $30.

The Aug. 16 concert is one of three special events that will be part of the Aug. 9-16 Mercer Project. On Aug. 14 Michael Kerker, music theatre director of ASCAP, will host a lecture about the life of one of America's major songwriters. The 2 PM lecture will be held at the Josephine Louis Theatre and will feature a panel comprising composer and lyricist Lippa and recording artist White. Admission is free, although reservations are required by calling (847) 491-7282.

On Aug. 15 at 8 PM, "The Songwriters Showcase" will be presented at the Josephine Louis Theatre. Composers and lyricists from across the country will present an evening of original music. Tickets are priced $15 for the general public and $10 for senior citizens and Northwestern faculty, staff and students.

The Josephine Louis Theatre is located at 20 Arts Circle Drive in Evanston, IL. The Pick-Staiger Concert Hall is located at 50 Arts Circle Drive. For tickets call (847) 491-7282 or visit www.tic.northwestern.edu/tickets.php.

Preceding the three public events is a weeklong educational program "designed for songwriters and songwriting teams aged 18 to 30 from all popular music genres. Featuring some of America's most prominent songwriters and singers serving as faculty for master classes and workshops, they will work in the tradition of the legendary Johnny Mercer."
