The Walnut Street Theatre's new resident staging of Les Misérables opened in downtown Philadelphia to glowing reviews on May 21.

Barrymore Award winner Mark Clements directed the turntable-free production which, due to popular demand, extended its run by three weeks several months before performances started.

The cast features a host of Broadway talent and Philadelphia-area favorites, led by Philly native and long-running Broadway Phantom Hugh Panaro as Jean Valjean. Broadway veteran Paul Schoeffler - recently seen on the Walnut stage as Captain Hook in Peter Pan and the title role in Man of La Mancha - plays opposite Panaro as the unyielding police inspector Javert.

Also featured in the large cast are Jessica Bogart (Broadway's Oklahoma!, In My Life) as Fantine; Jeffrey Coon (Carousel) as Enjolras; Julie Craig (The Fantasticks) as Cosette; Christina DeCicco (West Side Story, Beauty and the Beast) as Eponine; Scott Greer (Of Mice and Men) as Thenardier; Peter Schmitz as The Bishop, Dawn Spence as Madame Thenardier and Josh Young as Marius. The child actors sharing their respective roles: Gianna Bruzzese and Laurel Gwynne Yaros as Young Cosette, Danielle Rosenthal and Maggie Fitzgerald as Young Eponine, and Brandon O'Rourke and Dante Mignucci as Gavroche.

Rounding out the busy ensemble are Ben Dibble, Kelley Faulkner, Constantine Germanacos, Darren Michael Hengst, Danielle Herbert, Joe Jackson, Mary Martello, Michael Philip O'Brien, Katie O'Shaughnessey, Steve Pacek, Jennifer Page, Fran Prisco, Ilona Rubenstein, Nicholas F. Saverine, Abigail Sparrow and Denise Whelan. Extras include John Greenbaum, Mark Murphy, Joe O'Brien and CJ Sikorski.
