Sedaris' Santaland Diaries Added to Alley Season

By Adam Hetrick
08 Jul 2008

Houston's Alley Theatre will greet the holidays with David Sedaris' The Santaland Diaries, which has been added to the company's 2008-2009 season.

Alley Theatre resident company member Todd Waite (The Lieutenant of Inishmore) will star in Sedaris' outrageous account of his experience as Crumpet the Elf in Macy's Santaland display. Santaland Diaries runs Dec. 2-28 on the Neuhaus Stage with an official opening Dec. 5.

Tony Award-winning director Joe Mantello adapted Sedaris' original essay, "The Santaland Diaries," as a brief one-man play for the stage in 1996. Sedaris has also penned The Book of Liz for the stage.

Sedaris, a regular commentator on National Public Radio, is the author of the best-selling books "Barrel Fever," "Naked," "Holidays on Ice," "Me Talk Pretty One Day" and "Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim."

The Alley Theatre will also present the family-friendly seasonal favorite A Christmas Carol – A Ghost Story of Christmas, adapted by Michael Wilson and directed by James Black, on the Hubbard Stage.

Tickets for The Santaland Diaries go on sale July 20 and are available by visiting AlleyTheatre.org or by phoning (713) 220-5700.

The Alley Theatre is located at 615 Texas Avenue in Houston, TX.
