Broadway Will Welcome Waiting for Godot Revival in 2009

Tony Award winner Garry Hynes, most recently represented on the New York stage with the City Center Encores! production of Juno, will direct a Broadway revival of Waiting for Godot in 2009.
According to a casting notice, the Samuel Beckett classic will arrive on Broadway at a theatre to be announced in winter/spring 2009.
Before playing Broadway, this production of Godot will play Seattle Repertory Theatre Jan. 15-Feb. 14, 2009. Tony winner Bill Irwin, most recently seen on Broadway in the revival of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, will star in the Seattle Rep staging. Although it is likely Irwin will repeat his work for Broadway audiences, no official announcement has been made.
Producers of the Broadway production are Elizabeth I. McCann, Seattle Repertory Theatre and Joey Parnes.
Waiting for Godot, according to Seattle Rep, is described as such: "Considered by many to be the most significant English language play of the 20th century, this absurdist comedy places two Charlie Chaplin-like tramps in the middle of nowhere to await the mysterious Godot."
Garry Hynes won a Tony Award for her direction of The Beauty Queen of Leenane and was also Tony-nominated for her direction of The Lonesome West. She has also directed the Broadway mountings of Sixteen Wounded and Translations as well as the City Center Encores! production of Juno. Hynes was a co-founder of the Druid Theatre Company and is currently its artistic director.
