Dog Day Afternoon, a new play based on the events that inspired Sidney Lumet's film of the same name, makes its world premiere July 16 at The Studio Theatre at Theatre Row Theatres.

Written and directed by Francisco Solorzano, the AEA-approved showcase will play a limited engagement through Aug. 16.

The cast of the Barefoot Theatre Company production features Jeremy Brena, Charles Casano, John Gazzale, Lydia Gladstone, John Harlacher, Betty Hudson, Kendra Leigh Landon, Ruben Luque, Victoria Malvagno, Amanda Plant, Lorriane Rodriguez, Gil Ron, Francisco Solorzano, Anika Solveig, Joli Tribuzio and Steven R. Weinblatt.

The production includes sound design by Tasha Guevara, costume design by Victoria Malvagno, set design by Adam Rodriguez and lighting design by Eric Nightengale.

Show times are Thursdays-Saturdays at 8 PM and Sundays at 3 PM.

Sidney Lumet directed the 1975 film "Dog Day Afternoon," which was penned by Frank Pierson. Al Pacino and John Cazale starred in the hostage drama, which won an Academy Award for Pierson (Best Writing, Original Screenplay).

The Studio Theatre at Theatre Row Theatres is located in Manhattan at 410 West 42nd Street, between Ninth and Tenth Avenues. For tickets, priced $18, call (212) 279-4200 or visit www.ticketcentral.com.
