Gwen Stewart to Return to Broadway's Rent

Gwen Stewart

Gwen Stewart, who was part of the original cast of the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Rent, will return to that long-running production at the Nederlander Theatre.

Stewart, who introduced the solo vocals in the show's anthem, "Seasons of Love," will reprise her original roles beginning July 21. She will stay with the production through its final performance, which is scheduled for Sept. 7.

Gwen Stewart was also seen in the the Tony-nominated revival of Big River (NAACP Best Supporting Actress nomination/Honorary Tony for Excellence in Theatre for the ensemble) as well as in Starmites, Suds, Ain't Misbehavin', The Wiz, Avenue X and Abyssinia. Her screen credits include "Notes From the Underbelly," "Related," "Law & Order," "Charmed," "All My Children," "Moesha," "24," "Strong Medicine," "The Guardian," "Down To Earth" and "Personals."

Rent, the East Village-set rock musical about artists and lovers struggling to be heard and connect, plays the Nederlander Theatre. The late Jonathan Larson wrote its book, music and lyrics.

The cast currently includes Will Chase (Roger), Adam Kantor (Mark), Renee Goldsberry (Mimi), Eden Espinosa (Maureen), Merle Dandrige (Joanne), Justin Johnston (Angel), Michael McElroy (Tom Collins), Rodney Hicks (Benny), Telly Leung (Steve), Shaun Earl (Paul), Maia Wilson (Seasons Soloist), Marcus Paul James (Seasons Soloist), Jay Wilkison (Gordon), Andrea Goss (Alexi), Tracy McDowell (Mark's Mom).
