The Next Big Thing, billed as a "garage rock musical," begins performances July 19 at the art/works Theatre in Los Angeles, CA.

Directed by Jeff Favre and Rachel Maize, the cast boasts Missy Gibson, Matisha Baldwin, Heather Belling, Curt Bonnem, Jason Director, Lisa May, Brandon Ruckdashel, Michael Thompson and Ellen D. Williams. Performances will continue through Aug. 16.

The Next Big Thing features a book by Jeff Favre and a score by Missy Gibson and Mike Flanagan (of the indie band Breech). The latter is also the show's musical director.

The new musical, according to press notes, is set in 1983 and "Chip and his budding garage band are looking for the new sound that will take them to the next level — much to the dismay of Chip's mom, Melissa — a singer-songwriter from the '60s with a checkered past and a belief that good music is more than a simple hook."

The creative team also includes set designer Davis Campbell, costume designer Sharell Martin and lighting designer Matt Richter with props by Noelle Leiblic. Gina Egger is the dramaturg, and the production stage manager is Angie Estevez.

Racquel Lehrman/Theatre Planners produces for Jath.com Productions.

Show times are Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM.

The art/works Theatre is located at 6569 Santa Monica Blvd. in Los Angeles, CA. For tickets call (323) 960-4418 or visit thenextbigthingmusical.com.
