The Heat Is On at the Muny: Miss Saigon, with Jue, Dionisio and Kunze, Begins

Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg's Miss Saigon begins performances July 21 at the St. Louis Muny, the nation's oldest and largest outdoor theatre.

Directed and choreographed by Darren Lee, the London and Broadway hit will play the St. Louis venue through July 27.

The cast boasts Francis Jue as The Engineer, Ma-Anne Dionisio as Kim, Eric Kunze as Chris, Josh Tower as John, Michael K. Lee as Thuy, Kathy Voytko as Ellen, Sam Poon as Tam, Joanne Javien as Gigi, Billy Bustamante as the Assistant Commissar, Francis Cruz as the Owner of the Moulin Rouge and Tracy Baker as Schultz. The Dragon Acrobatic Specialty performers include Will Burton, Doan MacKenzie, David Morton, Bobby Pestka, Vincent Rodriguez III and Amos Wolff. Pestka is also the Dance Captain.

The Miss Saigon ensemble comprises Tracy Baker, Kristine Bendul, Justin Scott Brown, Will Burton, Billy Bustamante, Derek Carley, Nick Cosgrove, Francis Cruz, Demi Fragale, Nam Holtz, Joanne Javien, Ian Joseph, Max Kumangai, Jaygee Macapugay, Doan Mackenzie, David Morton, Sydney Morton, Mayumi Omagari, Kent Overshown, Frankie Paparone, Bobby Pestka, Vincent Rodriguez III, Amos Wolff, Lisa Yuen and Richard Feng Zhu.

The creative team also includes Melanie Lockyer (assistant director/choreographer), Edward G. Robinson (musical director), Steve Gilliam (set designer), F. Mitchell Dana (lighting designer), Jason Krueger (sound designer) and Kansas City Costume (costume designer). Joseph Schulte is resident stage manager, Harold Goldfaden is production stage manager and Zoe Chapin is assistant stage manager.

Miss Saigon debuted on Broadway on March 23, 1991, and ran through Jan. 28, 2001. Produced by Cameron Mackintosh and directed by Nicholas Hytner, the pop opera won Tony Awards for three of its original stars, Jonathan Pryce, Hinton Battle and Lea Salonga. Songs titles include "Sun and Moon," "I Still Believe," "Why God Why," "I'd Give My Life For You," "Now That I’ve Seen Her" and "The American Dream."

The summer at the Muny will also include productions of My One and Only (July 28-Aug. 3) and Fiddler on the Roof (Aug. 4-10).
