The evening at The Players Club begins at 7 PM and boasts the talents of Emmy winner and Young Frankenstein star Megan Mullally as well as Michael Cumpsty, Ana Reeder, Michael Esper, Matt Cavenaugh, Nikki Coble, Adam Feldman, Annie Golden, Merwin Goldsmith, John Keating, Lianne Kressin, Scott Schafer, Alexis Soloski and Emily Young.
In Major Barbara, press notes state, "Lady Britomart Undershaft (Megan Mullally) is a woman determined that her children should be well provided for. Her estranged husband, Andrew Undershaft, (Michael Cumpsty), is a notorious millionaire armaments dealer who has not known his grown children since they were babies. Lady Brit brings them together with surprising results. His daughter Barbara (Ana Reeder) is a devout major in the Salvation Army who refuses her father's funds and wants to marry a poor Greek scholar, Cusins (Michael Esper). Power, religion, finance, sex and the concept of family life are all skewered by the most irreverent of authors."
The Project Shaw series is produced and directed by David Staller, who acted with Dana Ivey in Shaw's Mrs. Warren's Profession at the Irish Repertory Theatre. The series intends to offer every sketch, full-length and one-act play by the playwright.
Also scheduled for the 2008 Project Shaw season are Caesar and Cleopatra (Sept. 22), The Shewing-Up of Blanco Posnet (Oct. 20), Jitta's Atonement (Nov. 17) and Saint Joan (Dec. 22).
The Players Club is located in Manhattan at 16 Gramercy Park South. Tickets, priced $20, are available by calling (212) 352-3101. For more information visit www.projectshaw.com.
